English

All forms of periodontal treatment are based on the quasi-total elimination of bacteria by the dental surgeon, along with the disruption, 3 times per day, of biofilm by the patient (brushing and interdental cleaning).
. Gingivitis: scale removal
. Periodontitis: scale removal + surfacing
Scale removal consists in detaching the tartar from the teeth (crown and root).
Surfacing, on the other hand, removes any residual tartar, leaving a smoother surface.
The frequency of scale removal is defined by the dental surgeon.
The dental surgeon may prescribe the use of antiseptics (in toothpaste or mouth wash form) or antibiotics.
